Session replay for Shopify, tied to the paid order.
Candler records every page of your Shopify theme and ties each visit to the checkout it started and the order it paid for. Shopify doesn't let outside scripts see its checkout, so checkout pages aren't recorded, but your funnels and revenue are complete.
Beta Shopify support is new. If anything looks off, email [email protected].
In short.
- What gets recorded
- Every page of your theme: home, collections, products, cart and your own pages.
- What doesn't
- Shopify's checkout pages. No outside tool can record them.
- How orders count
- Shopify sends each paid order to Candler, signed. Candler matches it to the visit that started checkout.
- What it costs
- Free for 1,000 recorded sessions a month. Paid plans from $24 a month.
Your theme is recorded. Shopify's checkout isn't.
Candler records the storefront: every page your theme draws. That covers product pages, collections, search, the cart and any custom pages, which is where most shoppers decide whether to buy.
Shopify runs checkout itself and doesn't run theme code there. Outside tools can only get events from it through Shopify's customer events, which run in a sandbox that can't see the page. So no session replay tool can show you a shopper filling in Shopify's checkout. Candler's pixel still reports who started checkout and who paid, so funnels run all the way to the order. Drop-off recordings stop at the cart.
Every recording knows what happened to the cart.
- Session replay with clicks, cart changes and rage clicks marked on the timeline.
- Funnels from product page to paid order, with recordings of the people who dropped off before checkout.
- Click and scroll heatmaps for any theme page, split by phone and desktop.
- Rage clicks and dead clicks flagged by page, such as a variant picker that doesn't respond.
- Revenue and orders by product and traffic source.
- Live view of who's on the store and what's in their cart.
Paid orders come from Shopify, signed.
Shopify sends Candler a webhook when an order is paid. Candler checks Shopify's signature, then ties the order to the visit by its order number or checkout. An order from a shopper who blocked Candler still counts, without a visit attached. An order reported twice is counted once.
Add to cart comes from Candler's pixel in the shopper's browser. An ad blocker that blocks Candler hides it, but the order still counts.
Setup takes three pastes.
No app is needed today. Candler's Settings, Installation page shows each step with your own codes filled in.
- Snippet. In Online Store, Themes, Edit code, open
theme.liquidand paste one line just before</head>. - Pixel. In Settings, Customer events, add a custom pixel, paste the code from Candler, save and connect it.
- Order webhook. In Settings, Notifications, Webhooks, create one for Order payment with the address Candler gives you, then paste Shopify's signing secret into Candler.
If you switch themes, paste the snippet into the new one. The pixel and webhook stay as they are.
We've also built a Shopify App Store app that does this from inside your Shopify admin. It's waiting on Shopify's review.
Privacy settings are on before you change anything.
- Form fields are masked in the browser before anything is sent.
- Visitors whose browser sends Global Privacy Control aren't tracked.
- Your privacy policy gets an opt-out link that works from any page.
- Candler's pixel sends nothing for visitors the theme snippet isn't tracking.
- No customer names, emails or addresses are stored from orders.
Questions Shopify owners ask.
- Does it record Shopify's checkout?
- No. Shopify doesn't let outside scripts see its checkout pages. Candler still knows who started checkout and who paid, so funnels and revenue are complete.
- Will it slow the store down?
- The tracker is about 12 KB compressed and loads without blocking the page. The recorder waits until the page has loaded.
- Can I run it next to Clarity, Hotjar or Lucky Orange?
- Yes. They don't interfere with each other.
